It’s been a long time coming, but the book, Not Your Fathers Coast Guard is now available here. It shouldn’t be to much longer until you can find it in bookstores and CGEX’s locations. There have been a few posts on this book that has peaked my interest, but I’m also psyched about it since [...] Though I generally try to keep tabs on the happy-go-luck stories in the Coast Guard, there is something to be said for role models breaking that role model mold. However, in line with my better judgment, I believe, I have decided not to post my thoughts that I had written out last night on the [...] VBS.TV has an excellent show on the history, current use and technology of semi-submersibles to transport drugs. The first part is embedded here: [...] So I sit and read through the day’s news after putting my daughters to bed for the night and I see that a story of a Coast Guard drug bust is all over the news and social scene. Granted anytime a larger bust is disclosed to the media there seems to a fair amount of [...] This morning ADM Allen sent out an all-hands message congratulating several units on the 14 tons of cocaine from two Self-Propelled Semi-Submersible (SPSS) vessels in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. Samuel Loewenberg of the Politico (a Capitol Hill publication) yesterday wrote an article entitled “New Subs sink Drug Policing Efforts.” It is a good review of the semisubmersible threat. A little noticed provision in the House-passed version of the FY 09 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) would temporarily expand the JOA of JIATF-S to include Africa. Don’t tell my other blog I’m doing this… but I couldn’t resist. Today Reuters is running a story on the success of the Colombian Navy on the sinking of its 18th cocaine ladened submarine- with backing by USCG of course… |
