Yesterday morning on my way out the door I happened across a headline (not reading the rest of the piece until today) that sparked my thought process through the rest of the day. The online presence of Occupational Health & Safety, OHSonline.com, ran the headline of Coast Guard Logs 25% Increase in Summer Search & [...] Here’s a nice little breakdown of Rescue 21 out of Houston, TX… irony is a sick joke sometime (sorry, that’s the inside my head voice). For a bigger version check out online39.com. Here is a story that I came across that attribute the successful efforts of the USCG to the new implementation of the Rescue 21 system. The Coast Guard blog On Scene has a great piece on the proposed changes in the future of locating 406MHZ EPIRRBs. In a nutshell a new line of satellites are in the works to better serve the needs of the worlds search and rescue agencies. Part of my job as a LANT SAR controller is to monitor our SARSAT system watching for 406MHZ “hits” around the world. And in doing so it never really dawned on me where the satellites were in the atmosphere picking up the signals for such distresses, that was until a co-worker of mine sent a [...] I found this during my normal Twitter perusal time- It appears the Coast Guard was taking care of business… but I couldn’t find an associated press release. Twitter user Zayda10 (a.k.a. Julie Mitchell) is the one who posted this. If anyone could shed some light on it that would be great. I’m reposting this as we are now in the near-middle of the high SAR season… I hope it helps- again. It was all over the local news here in the Hampton Roads area today- the visit of DHS’s Sec.
