The change in policy has been made and now we’ll see how well we’ve prepared. I am of course talking about the change in the Coast Guard’s weight standards and the subsequent measuring policies- the BMI standard. I actually started this post about a week ago and thought there’s no reason to cry over spilt [...] Ryan Erickson recently introduced us to the new “Coast Guard” game available through the iPhone App Store and published by Punch Studio. Excited that someone was promoting a Coast Guard service through an innovative new medium (and appalled that someone was beating me to it as my own Coast Guard-based iPhone game is presently under [...] Oh how history repeats itself… kinda-sorta. Today in 1818 the Revenue Cutter Active captured the pirate vessel India Libre in the Chesapeake Bay. Seems we’ve come full circle in the fight on piracy, only we’ve taken our fight to them. Well, maybe not the same pirates that were aboard the India Libre, but pirates in [...] You’ve no doubt heard that the CGC BOUTWELL has returned from it’s global circumnavigating journey, and if you hadn’t, well, their back. In a story found on the LA Times we get a glimpse of the sights they saw and their mission. So where’d they go? Well they seemed to have visited all the glamorous [...] The question has come up several times in the last few months as to what is the U.S. Coast Guard doing to fight the war on piracy on the worldwide scale. You’ll already know, but this is has been going on for years. What really struck a cord with the U.S. was the hijacking of [...] And if you’re waiting for the punchline… well, there isn’t one. This actually has nothing to do with the local pirates union thinking they are a coast guard (note no capitalization there) but in fact this is the local government in Somalia is wanting to set one up.
