Later during the day, I spent some time thinking more about what this day really means to me, and why. Excited that someone was promoting a Coast Guard service through an innovative new medium (and appalled that someone was beating me to it as my own Coast Guard-based iPhone game is presently under [...] Walter Cronkite, who passed away yesterday at the ripe age of 92, has been a man of pivotal, world-shaping stories through at least two generations of Americans. But there are stories of Mr. Cronkite himself that are far less often told. Fox News just broke that a “senior U.S. official” has confirmed the U.S. is tracking a North Korean vessel named “Kang Nam”. The vessel left a North Korean port on Wednesday, and is suspected of transporting “weaponry, missile parts or nuclear materials”. A few hours ago, Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ-02, whose district includes Cape May, NJ), the ranking member of the House Coast Guard & Maritime Transportation Committee, introduced legislation that would expand the benefits offered to Guardians and their families.
