As I mentioned in the last post, the memorial service is to be webcast for those who are unable to attend. Coast Guard public affairs has a press release about it. The memorial itself is only open to family and Coast Guard members, so the webcast is the way for the rest of the public [...] On the Air Station New Orleans Newsletter (blog) they have some information for those of you who’ve been following the unfortunate accident of Air Station Barbers Point’s CG-6505. The crew is being honored in a new book titled Flags or Our Fallen. As a reminder the HH-6505 was conducting a training mission 5 miles south [...] I came across a great online article over the weekend from the local Elizabeth City, NC paper The Daily Advance highlighting a day mission of the Coast Guards newest C-130, the HC-130J. It’s fairly descriptive and a quick read on the accounts of the author’s tag-along trip during last weeks SARPAT (Search and Rescue Patrol) [...] Can you imagine the Coast Guard still using our MH-60J helicopters through 2027, or, if you rather, another 18 years? This one is also a calendar for June; I think Sean was felling sorry for all you aviation types out there so he’s got an [...] I quickly mentioned this little bit in my post related to the April issue of Delivering the Goods, but thought it was something to further cover as it applies to all mariners who own and hope never to use their 406mhz EPIRB. The Coast Guards Acquisition folks put out on their website a nice piece [...] Popular Mechanics, every geeks favorite magazine, has a great digital article entitled Flying High in Coast Guard Chopper Rescue School which oddly enough is about our Advanced Helicopter Rescue School in Astoria, OR. I am particularly fond of the tagline: Here we have a Flickr find from user Lost In Urban of ah HC-130J on the ramp in Reykjavik. This photo says to me that the U.S. Coast Guard shines even in the way of ominous weather. The caption from it’s author says Today is a good day of press for the Coast Guard’s Acquisition office, or commonly known as CG-9 inside the puzzle palace. Hitting the web yesterday were two great pieces of info giving credence to the thought that we, as a service, are moving forward in our acquisition process. And if you were looking only [...] |
