Long time no post I know! I have been slammed studying for my boards, a class, my GRE, etc. The last thing I have wanted to do was look at a blank screen with the cursor taunting me to write something, and make it interesting! But sometimes? There is something just too interesting to pass [...] Man, what a horrible way to head into the holiday week, it is such a tragedy any time things like this happen…but even that bit more so when a child is involved. Keep everyone involved in your thoughts and prayers. Elaina posted about this a few weeks back, but I figured it bears repeating for anyone who missed it. For anyone who wants to show their ongoing support for the families and friends of the lost crew of CG 1705, or who wants to give something to the Coast Guard Foundation…or even for holiday gifts [...] Not too long ago, I had the pleasure of speaking to a group of Auxiliarists in Huntington Beach. While I was there I met AUX Curt Aiken, who told about the Coast Guard Cutter Roger B. Taney. As can be seen in the post just before this one, the Taney was in Pearl Harbor the [...] Do you know Social Media Fu Master Ben Strong (the focus of this comic)? He is the man with a plan working with AMVER, running their public affairs including a social media program so robust some of us can only dream of keeping up with him! The Baltimore Sun had a great article about Admiral Sandra L. Stosz today. (Read it here.) It talks about how she ended up in the Coast Guard, her time at sea, her family and where she is now. Really worth the read. The highest award a Coast Guard member can receive. That is how the “award” ceremony yesterday was explained to OSC Josue Mendez’s girlfriend Elizabeth. Lt. Jim Hiltz, command center chief at Sector LA/LB had called Elizabeth to let her know that the command was going to be giving OSC Mendez an award in a surprise [...] If you are on Facebook, take some time to look at the tribute page to CG1705, the Coast Guard C130 that was lost. It has over 12,000 members now and new messages of support seem to be added in a steady stream. So, like Elaina I was going to post about why I joined the Coast Guard…but in sitting down to write it I got all tangled up because I have a little issue on Veteran’s Day.
