I am still shaking as I type this. My father Ambrosio Q. Angel was stationed on the U.S.S. Haida. He passed away 21 yrs. ago, having a wonderful full life.(Ret.C.G.) I had enlarged a photo of him that I found in a very old box that my mother had. There was no date on it. It is my father on the seat behind a large military gun. Most of the cutter shows in the photo. With it is a Christmas Card with the ships photo and a greeting printed on it professionally.
(I logged into your blog because I wanted to send you my Chirstmas Menu from when I was in the Navy in 1958 to add to your collection. By the way Cigars and Cigarettes are on mine too.)

When I opened your site I now know when my father was stationed on the Cutter. 1931. If you look on the right of the names of the crew, he is the 3rd from the last. God Bless you for making one lady happy and her syblings.

Thank you, Warmest Regards, Angel, U.S. Navy

Ok: a few hours later, however I remember on the English channel, we went to a place for dinner and it was the biggest turkey I ever seen. (I hate turkey, but eat it).

    NOW:

Giant turkeys cause Christmas nightmare: “Tasmanian butchers say they are facing the nightmare of irate customers and financial losses thanks to over-sized turkeys. The state’s turkey supplier Nichols says its Christmas birds are up to 2kg heavier than expected this year thanks mostly to a cooler growing season, according to a report in The Mercury. Home cooks who ordered a 3kg turkey for Christmas Day are likely to find themselves battling to get a bird that will fit in the oven. “It’s a nightmare,” Shane Mundy of Hill Street Gourmet Meats said. Customers were furious and many had cancelled entire orders of up to $500, including hams and barbecue meats. “We’ve had cancelled orders and it means more turkeys that we’re going to have to freeze or make sausages with, so we lose money,” Mr Mundy said yesterday. “It’s caused mass panic and hysteria. People don’t know what they’re going to do.”

Oregon Turkey may be bigger? All the California turkeys are anorexic.
In reality, they may have had more to meat the demand and at the right price?

I love the specificity. Young Oregon Turkey. No Washington or California turkeys allowed.

No pipe smokers allowed either. After dinner Cigars or Cigarettes. My how the Coast Guard has changed.

    Merry Christmas
