“In Portsmouth: Coast Guard helps Salvation Army ready Thanksgiving food baskets,” Geoff Cunningham Jr. writes:
On Wednesday a group of Coast Guard members from the Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma spent the morning packing donated items in various size Thanksgiving baskets for distribution. The baskets are full of everything from stuffing to cranberry sauce and will be handed out with turkeys.
Ensign Kyle Sweet was among six Coast Guard members who joined in the effort and said they enjoyed leaving their station at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for the chance to help out the Salvation Army.
Sweet said his crew was among those honored by the community at a recent Veterans Day ceremony so he considered helping the community a chance to “pay it forward.”
“People help us out so it’s nice to return the favor,” Sweet said.
