APB for 378 Sailors Past and Present

CGBLOG.ORG has issued an All Points Bulletin for past and present 378′ sailors. Can you share with us what it is like to serve onboard these platforms? How’s the morale? Are the 378s a floating fire trap? How is their readiness in the 8th year of war? Inquiring minds want to know!

It's been almost 34 years since I was on the CGC Dallas so I doubt I can add much to the conversation but I'd sure like to hear some comments from some of the more recent 378 sailors.
  • A "floating fire trap"? WTF?!? I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that it is just your inexperience showing instead of slander of the service and its personnel on your part. However, I would cease and desist the inflammatory rhetoric and reckless allegations like this (lamely poised in the form of a "question") if I were you Jim, you're removing all shadow of a doubt for the readers here.

    For seriously?

Have you ever heard of yoga? Do you know that penguins smell funny? Can you at least leave a comment that has something to add to the conversation?

    Just askin! :D
  • Can Mr. No-Sea Time or Engineering Experience post anything that does not bash the Coast Guard, it's personnel (and now apparently too) its cutters about which he "asks" if they are "a floating fire trap" (sic)?

The premise of his "question" is as fatally flawed as "When did you stop beating your wife," hence no answer is possible which would add to the conversation...such as it is.

Two fallacious threads in a row like this from him does make me wonder just how many Coasties at the Areas and Headquarters will be reading them on Monday and will be scratching their heads saying: "Just whose side is this Dolbow kid on?".

When I got my first billet on a 378" i was a little leery because the rumors were WHEC 722, the Morgenthau had had 3 serious engine room fires. One had fatalities or serious injuries. This was years before I was on board. She was comissioned in 1969 and served in Vietnam during Opertion Market Time. The ship never had any problems when I served on her, or heard about any other WHEC's having fire problems. My second WHEC was the Munro. Never any worries about fire.....

Wow. You really are just kinda ready to be angry at the world aren'tcha!

He was asking a question, he was asking how the morale was, how the life was on a 378...actually it seems to get the answers YOU specifically mocked him for not having in the first place. So either pipe up and tell your sea stories, or dance like a pygymy wombat in a tap dancing class after an triple heart bypass and a couple beers...but really? He was asking a very basic question...so answer it!

HEY PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCE ON A 378, SPEAK UP! what was it like?

So, were YOU on a 378 Surface Force, or are you just here because you like stirring up more stink than a skunk in a blender. How about YOU share some real life experience with us!

    Just saying.
  • My "real life experience" is that your contributor is full of it and doesn't have a clue what he is talking about on this issue.

And, sure he was "just asking a question". Yeah, right.

Here is your warning Surface Force, if you can not refrain from making personal attacks I am going to have to take action.

He might not have phrased it the way I would but he is asking for people who do have the experience to pipe up.

So since you didn't like the way he asked. I am going to ask. Tell us about your experience on this topic, were you on a cutter? What was it like? What are your thoughts on how the readiness of the fleet is from the cutterman's or engineers perspective.
