Tsunami Assistance — for families of 2 Coast Guard members

From an email I just received….

To all of our friends in the Northern Virginia Council of the Navy League,
from Nancy Gorell, Vice President of Ship/Unit Liaison.

One of our adopted units, the United States Coast Guard Recruiting Command, has two members whose families are in American Samoa. Some of the Family members were either killed or badly injured.

And they lost everything!!

We want to Help!!!!

They need clothes (shorts, t-shirts, flip-flops).

Any items you think someone would need in the tropics.

Here are the details:

Both of the villages where these members are from were hit very hard. In one of the villages, there are 2 buildings left; they are using one for the men and one for the women. As of two days ago, none of the government agencies had made it to them. The donations received from our members will be sent by each of the 2 Coast Guard members to share with their village. So they need as much as you can give.

If you want to donate clothes:
You can take them to the US Coast Guard Recruiting Command no later than Tuesday, October 13, 2009.
They are located at 2300 Wilson Boulevard – 5th Floor – Arlington, Virginia.

Thank you very much, for any assistance you can provide.
Nancy Gorell

Will the Recruiting Command accept monetary donations in lieu of actual clothing? I can image that damage that bad, you couldn't spend money, if there's nothing there to buy, but with out knowing the sizes needed, If i send the wrong sizes, the while it night go to another needy family, it's not directly helping our service members.

Other than A/c, are any afloat units enroute? I would think that a Cutter full of supplies, would be a VERY welcome sight.

The USCG Recruiting Command through Navy League is looking for either money or clothes!
    Size really doesn't matter.
    Anything will be appreciated.
Thank you so much for your support.
