Yesterday on the public CGMS archive ALCOAST 478/09 announced the Expo is to be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, VA from November 17-19, 2009. Last year Peter and I, along with dozens of other Coast Guard bloggers, attended the expo. Though I didn’t make it to the blogging presentation it was a good time. The theme this year is “INNOVATION INSIDE – OPPORTUNITIES AMIDST CHANGE” and as noted by the message
BUILDING A NEW COAST GUARD IS NOT LIMITED TO MODERNIZING THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE. WE MUST CONTINUE TO FOSTER A CULTURE OF INNOVATION WHICH ENABLES GUARDIANS EVERYWHERE TO FOCUS INNOVATION ON MISSION EXECUTION AND SUPPORT. THE EXPO PROVIDES A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR COAST GUARD INNOVATORS TO SHOWCASE THEIR INITIATIVES AND COLLABORATE WITH OTHERS ACROSS GOVERNMENT, INDUSTRY AND ACADEMIA TO RESOLVE ORGANIZATIONAL CHALLENGES.
Social Media in the Coast Guard anyone?
So now starts the thought process of attending- do you or your unit have an innovation that the Coast Guard may benefit from? If so, you can go for FREE! Details are in the message… hmm, is blogging innovative? One major thing to note is this line in the message-
UNITS ARE AUTHORIZED TO ISSUE TAD ORDERS AT GOVT EXPENSE FOR PARTICIPATION IN EXPO 2009.

There will be a social media unConference at the EXPO on Tuesday the 17th. Attendees at the unConference do not have to be registered for the EXPO as our meeting room is outside the main hall. No registeration means not visiting the EXPO floor or general sessions... however, the floor and general sessions are usually open at no cost.... Details on the unConference forth coming. I think I may want to come along and see the expo and even see the social media conference. It would be good to mingle with higher ups as well. I wonder if they Let Aux folks in their as well. How do Aux guys get travel orders to the conference.
