The MSRT Demo and a SAR case Thank You

It was all over the local news here in the Hampton Roads area today- the visit of DHS’s Sec. Napolitano. However, it wasn’t just her visit that I was looking forward to, it was the demonstration of our MSRT that was to be my highlight. And as I slept the day away after my night watch last night I’ve been looking through the various newscasts this evening watching for the best one to share… and here it is. WAVY news showed this broadcast this afternoon-

You can find the official video and press info for today’s events, which were held at ISC Portsmouth, on the D5 Public Affairs site here (worth the time).

And finally you’ll notice at the end of the newscast they start talking about two people being rescued- that info can be found here. I only mention it because it happened while I was on watch last night- I would like to give a congrats to the OS2 and the LT (I don’t want to put their names in here as I didn’t ask their permission) as they were not mentioned in the release. These two ran the case, created the search patterns, and told the assets where to go, thus finding two people clinging to a hull. SAR controllers… the rarely named heroes of everyday search and rescue. Thank you both.

An addition- this YouTube video was sent to me after the fact, and I think it does a better job of showing off our people, mission, and our Secretary.
