Open Discussion for the week of 28 June 2009

It’s your Open Discussion post for the week, and I’d like to put a slight inject into it. I received a comment via our “Contact Us” link this past week that I really can’t answer to but thought it was interesting enough to share. Have you ever used the TPAX system to do a travel claim? You’ll easily relate then.

From Mr. H

TPAX – I tried using this for the first time today. After almost seven years as a govie, 20 years in the other naval services and ten years as an educator – I can not believe that CG personnel are putting up with this poor excuse of an official travel disbursement system. If the purpose of this software program is to make it so burdensome on the user that one must think twice about going on TDY or local travel than they certainly have achieved their goal. I’d like to meet the person who sold this to the CG. He/she probably also sold the same software package to GM and Chrysler! Any similar comments out there?!

And with that, what else is on your mind?

I actually like Tpax, mostly. Once you have used it a few times, its pretty easy. It usually only takes me 15 minutes or so, tops, to enter a claim. It does almost all the calculations, including mileage, for you, and once my claim is signed off by the authorising YN, the money is in the bank within a week or two, sometimes within days. Not like the old days where the Govt credit card bill would be overdue before your travel pay finally showed up!

It helps if you get all your receipts, orders, documents etc together before you start so all your info is right there.

It is not very intuitive though, and if you haven't used it in a while its a good idea to get somebody to help you.

Down sides are that being seldom used, you tend to lose your password and have to do teh reset thing a lot, and the system seems like it goes down a lot.

PSC - I think you're not telling the whole story on how easy TPax is to use, especially knowing that you work with two awesome YN's who are probably helping you....

Heh heh heh. They are pretty good YNs, although I had to fix a lot of damage done by a LCDR who was here previously....... :)

Sending you an e-mail on the CG account....

My inabilities are unfortunately legendary, especially if more than two fingers are needed to type.
