Our Coast Guard SEAL candidates are still going strong

This morning I put out, via this here very medium, a request for information (a.k.a. RFI) on how our ‘boys in blue’ were doing in the Navy’s SEAL training. Well, we got our answer this afternoon via a comment on the post from LT James McLay, the Deployable Operations Group Public Affairs Officer. Here’s what he had to say:

First off, thanks for your continued interest in our Guardians…

The DOG is pleased to report that the Coast Guard candidates continue to excel during Navy SEAL training – otherwise known as Basic Underwater Demolition / SEALs or BUD/S.

Two of our officers are well into Second Phase (Diving), and recently completed their pool competency – considered a major milestone in training. One of these officers is Class 276’s leader, and the feedback on all of our officer’s performance to date remains extremely positive.

As reported earlier, one of our three officers is in a medical hold due to an injury sustained in training and is looking forward to rejoining a future class.

Third Phase (Land Warfare / Weapons / Demolition) is scheduled to begin in July. Please know that milestones now occur in months, as opposed to days or weeks. After graduating BUD/S in September, the candidates will still need to complete parachute training and Seal Qualification Training, among other things, before pinning on their tridents sometime during the spring of 2010.

The good news is these officers continue to represent the Coast Guard extremely well. Although there is a long way to go, they have persevered through some of the most challenging training available in the military, and are on track towards graduation. We are immensely proud of all of their accomplishments thus far, and look forward to keeping you updated on their progress during the next year.

That is awesome! We here at CGBlog, and I’m sure it’s the same all throughout the Coast Guard when I say, again, you’ve already made us proud. Keep it up!
