Is the Coast Guard doing anything in the Second Life virtual world?

Last week, I had the opportunity to hear the Air Force’s chief of future learning talk about what the Air Force is doing in terms of preparing the next generation of Airmen. Great stuff:

The Air Force will be using any number of modalities for training and education. Among them, virtual worlds, such as Second Life.

Is the Coast Guard doing anything in the Second Life virtual world? If you know of anything the CG is doing with 2nd life, please comment below. Thanks for your help.

While there is a 'SecondLife Coast Guard' (SLCG) run by a member of the Auxiliary, based in the Kinrara sim, it is in no way affiliated with the US Coast Guard or any real life agency. That person tells me the US Coast Guard is not interested at this time in pursuing any ventures in SecondLife.

However...There are a great deal of different coast guard groups in the sim, so it's still entirely possible.

Yes actually. The Coast Guard Auxiliary has a base in the Second Life grid. There are an actual running unit/base that offer education through SL on boating and boat safety.
