The Wooly-Pully & ODU are No More… Thank You!

Yesterday on the CGMS board (posted today on our CGMS site) the results of the newest uniform board were released in their 42nd update. No major changes with the exception of the de-authorization of the Cardigan sweater and the Wooly-Pully worn with ODU’s.

CARDIGAN SWEATERS AND WOOLY-PULLYS ARE NO LONGER AUTHORIZED FOR WEAR WITH THE OPERATIONAL DRESS UNIFORM (ODU).

And you know what- THANK YOU! That should have been addressed long before this as it look horrible with the ODU. Granted I’m not a personal fan of either anyway (there is something “grandmaish” about ‘em) but they look better with the Tropical Blue uniform any day!

The board did kind of burst my bubble by once again rejecting the wearing of other service devices not earned while in the CG… Well you can’t win them all.

John, the "garage mechanic" work uniform you're thinking of is most likely the old "working blues" which I personnally liked being able to climb around in the engine room in, the ODU is the Operational Dress Uniform, which is our blue version of the other services BDUs.

On another note, I just wish they would ban the wooly pully altogether, I also wish they'd make the "M" guys wear uniforms but like ya said, we can't all get our wishes! :)

I have to admit, I was really hoping that they allowed the 8 point cover. I love the ball cap, but the 8 point makes the uniform look squared away. Well, at least the current ODU's. I don't think anything can help the "un-tucked" maternity ODU's.

Forgive an old timer his lack of uniform knowledge. Is the ODU the "garage mechanic" work uniform? Also, how long have cardigans been a uniform item?
